Families across Brisbane’s eastern and bayside suburbs will have a free weekend option when the Brisbane Kite Festival returns to Minnippi Parklands.
The annual community event will run on Sunday, 23 August, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Tingalpa Model Aero Club in Minnippi Parklands, with professional kite flying, children’s rides, face painting, food stalls and other family activities planned throughout the day. Brisbane City Council lists the festival as a free, all-ages event, with no booking required.
Minnippi Parklands set for a colourful Sunday
Kite flying will remain at the centre of the program, with visitors able to watch professional kite flyers in action and take their own kites into a designated public flying area.
Families arriving without a kite will also be able to purchase one at the event. Other activities promoted for the day include children’s rides and face painting, while food trucks, a sausage sizzle and other food stalls will operate during the event, subject to availability.
The festival is organised by the Rotary Clubs of Brisbane South East and Carindale and is described by organisers as a volunteer-run community event. Brisbane City Council is also supporting this year’s festival.
The annual event has become a fixture on Brisbane’s community calendar, bringing together local families, volunteers and community organisations for a day centred on outdoor recreation and affordable entertainment.
Festival reaches beyond Tingalpa
Although the festival is being held in Tingalpa rather than Manly, it is being promoted within the wider Bayside community, making it a nearby option for residents of Manly, Wynnum, Lota and surrounding suburbs.
Bayside publication The Community Leader has also covered this year’s festival as a local community event, reflecting its relevance beyond the immediate Tingalpa area.
For families travelling from the bayside, the free admission provides an accessible Sunday activity without an entry charge, although visitors may still need to budget for food, rides and other optional purchases available at the event.
Doboy Ward Councillor Lisa Atwood has also promoted the 2026 festival through her public community channels, confirming the August 23 date, Tingalpa venue and 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. program. One of her recent posts also called for volunteers to help support the event.

The festival will be held at the Tingalpa Model Aero Club within Minnippi Parklands, with public transport information available through the event website for visitors planning their trip.
Parking will be available at the event, with organisers requesting a gold coin donation. Visitors travelling by car may want to allow additional time around the venue as attendance builds during the day.
